May,28.2003 I am delighted to let everyone know that Mark Scott Thornton has been a very positive influence in my life through the monthly letters we have been sharing with one another for at least five and half years. His name came to me through my church. I treasure his friendship. It happens that I am at least three times his age, so I find it comfortable for him to call me grandma H. At first in 1998 I asked Mark to be positve in his letters. He really makes an effort to be concerned for my comfort, my interest in nature, gardening. And he keeps track and prays for the ten wonderful people in my immediate family. All the times we have been writing, Mark has been an honest, considerate, appreciative person. I have never felt it a duty to write to Mark. It has been my pleasure. Sincerely and blessed hope! H.B. |

Hi There
My name's William and I am a San Francisco based actor. I met mark (through pen-paling a year ago) And have really enjoyed getting to know him. His letters are funny, sincere, deep, and thoughtful. He has a great eye for detail. Its always interesting for me to get the opportunity to look through Mark's eyes and see the world according to Mark. And I truly appreciate how interested and sympathetic he is to the ups and downs of my life. Especially with all he has on his plate. I had first starting writing Mark with the idea of a penpal. But since he lives not to far away from me I have ended up visiting him several times I thought two hour visits would be too long. Since when in modern life do you talk to anyone for two hours.... Yet I always felt cheated when the time came to an end all too soon. So now I have four hour visits. I even look forward to the hamburgers out of the vending machine in the visiting room. Hello there, my name is Heike and since Dec 01. 2006 I am Marks wife. If I would tell you all about Mark I would still be here tomorrow and I would be told off for using too much webspace. ;-) So let me tell you the basics. Mark is a very loving, sensitive and careing man. He always puts others first and hardly ever thinks about himself. It amazes me how sane he stayed in this hellhole. I truely would have given up. When he was thrown on Death Row he was only 19 years of age, at the time the youngest person on Death Row in CA. Since then a few number of years have gone by and he is in his 30's. For my thinking that is more than enough. Despite the fact he is locked up most of the day, he has an outrages sense of humor. My father was a prison guard for 30 something years and I know all these lovely stories about scammers and whatever else. Mark showed me that not everybody inside is the same. He is worth a 2nd chance, a 2nd look and he is loveable to no end. I love him to bits and I am grateful that I was able to meet him and that he loves me so much that he wanted to marry me. |
